As we're sure you guys know, back in May, we went on the trip of a lifetime to Southeast Asia. Although we visited amazing places like Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan, Jackie’s ultimate favorite country was Singapore, the land of new age technology and modern architecture.
Because it was such a jam-packed overnight stay, we decided to break down our stay in Singapore, to really describe how great the country is.
First (and Alyssa’s favorite) step to any trip - planning!
Alyssa: So if you hadn't caught on yet, I'm a huge architecture geek. I love looking at, researching and visit buildings, historic and new.
Jackie: I, on the other hand, am not. But, because Alyssa gets so excited about architecture I have started to appreciate it too. For example, on our Boston trip, we visited a building, the Ray and Maria Stata Center, and although it wasn’t exactly my top thing I wanted to visit, I learned to appreciate what makes my sister happy.
Alyssa: Back in my freshman year of college, I saw an image of Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and knew that one day I would need to see it in person myself.
Jackie: Before Alyssa mentioned it, I had no idea what the Marina Bay Sands hotel was.
Alyssa: When we started looking at flights from Bali to Phuket, we found one flight in particular that allowed us to have a 19 hour layover in Singapore. At this point, it completely spaced my mind that Singapore was home to Marina Bay Sands, so we both agreed to just stay the night at the airport before heading into the city the next day.
Jackie: I wasn’t particularly keen on this idea, but hey, it saves us money, and I’m cheap.
Alyssa: But we are also always up for new adventures and going out of our comfort zone, (meaning our very limited budget.) Once we realized that the Singapore airport might be a little uncomfortable after all of our traveling, we started to look at hostels and AirBNBs in Singapore
Jackie: Unlike the countries that we previously visited, Singapore is expensive, and is known for being high-end. Hotels, and even hostels cost a lot, and even at a high price, you don’t get much (which at that point in the trip, I was not used to.)
Alyssa: It was at this time that I finally remembered that the amazing Marina Bay Sands I had learnt about 5 years prior, was in Singapore. So I quickly jumped onto my computer to look at the website to see how much a room costs. Without Jackie knowing about the hotel at all, or that I was even considering it as our accommodation for the evening, I booked the cheapest room available ($400!!!). Obviously, you should always consult your travel partner before booking anything, but since I paid for most of the stay, Jackie wasn't exactly pissed at me.
Jackie: So it was settled, we were staying a night in a Deluxe Room with a Garden View at the world-famous Marina Bay Sands hotel!!!
