As I’m sure you guys know, back in May, we went on a trip of a lifetime in Southeast Asia. Although we visited amazing places like Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan; Jackie’s ultimate favorite country was Singapore, the land of new age technology and modern architecture.
Because it was such a jam-packed overnight stay, we decided to break down our stay in Singapore, to really describe how great the country is. Make sure you read Part 1!
Continuing our six-part Wednesday blog post series on Singapore, the second part of our Singapore trip - arriving and checking into Marina Bay Sands!
Jackie: After an nine day trip around Bali and the Gili Islands, Alyssa and I made our way to Singapore! We were exhausted but so excited to explore a new country. Funny enough, we had a hard time knowing if Singapore was a country, city, or region and we had to do some research (it is an island city-state.)
Alyssa: We were super relaxed for our flight to Singapore, because we had an amazing 4 hour spa and massage experience before jumping onto our plane. With our nails done and our muscles relaxed, we were ready for our trip to this bustling city.
Jackie: We got off the plane and immediately started heading to the door of the airport. To get to Marina Bay Sands, we chartered a van with 3 other groups. Although not the cheapest way to get somewhere in Singapore, it was the easiest and most convenient route.
Alyssa: There are several ways to get into the city from the airport, including Taxi, a shuttle bus or public transportation. Since we were in a brand new city at it being nearly midnight, we were willing to shell out a couple more dollars for the shuttle to avoid the craziness of public transit (although the underground system looked so clean and pristine!)
Alyssa: I started squealing the moment I saw the hotel from the van. Seriously, I was like a kid in a candy shop (or an architecture major is a city center).
Jackie: The van driver knew exactly what to do; he pulled straight up to the lower level drop-off and unloaded our bags.
Alyssa: If I weren't so tired from the travel, I'm pretty sure I would have ran up the escalator to the main lobby floor.
Jackie: The lobby was immaculate - it was the size of a small airport! Looking up, I'm pretty sure you could see to the 50th floor!
Alyssa: The hotel is made up of 3 towers connected with a large concourse on the floor level and a sky park (1 hectare!) on the 55th floor.
Jackie: Looking like we didn’t belong among the high-end business people with our giant backpacks on our backs, we made our way to the check-in counter. Because the hotel is so massive, there were over 10 people helping check-in guests (even at 11 PM at night!)
Alyssa: We didn't have to wait more than 20 seconds to be helped, but our lovely front-desk agent, Joseph, apologized for having to make us wait. We knew at that moment, that we were experiencing a taste of luxury.
Jackie: Alyssa did the checking in, while I admired the amazing atmosphere around us. I had no clue what to expect for our room, but I could tell by Alyssa's excitement that it must be pretty nice.
Alyssa: Joseph was very informative about how the billing works and how to access the amenities. After all of that he said "I have some good news and bad news. The good news is I am able to upgrade you to a Deluxe Suite with a City View". Before he could say another word, I was jumping up and down with joy. He said "The bad news is, you will have to share a king size bed". (Which to us, wasn't even bad news at all!)
Jackie: I have never seen Alyssa that excited! I, of course, was super excited, but with the lack of sleep and how late it was, I barely made it to the room!
Alyssa: The room was huge! There was a living room with a desk and couch and TV. Then there was a door that opened up to our huge bedroom with a king size bed, a chaise lounge, TV, a vanity and huge closet. And don't get me started on the bathroom. The area that contained the toilet itself is the size of my entire bathroom at home. There was a gorgeous tub actually in the shower and I knew at that moment, I was going to be up so late exploring this room.
Jackie: Because it was late and we were extremely hungry, Alyssa decided to order room service for herself (while I ate my Subway sandwich from the airport.)
Alyssa: I wanted to try almost everything on the menu but I settled for the dim sum, corn and crab soup and a noodle dish. Yes, I ordered it all for me; No, I could not eat it all. There was no way that was humanly possible.
Jackie: After room service, Alyssa took a luxurious bath in our state-of-the-art bath tub (while I crawled into bed!) I set the alarm for the crack of dawn so we could get sunrise pictures on the world-famous pool!
