Before I get started, I need to include a disclaimer - I am not a makeup expert. This is just a bunch of products that I have found that works with my oily, nasty face. It has taken me A LOT of time to perfect this routine, so don't feel bad if you still haven't found those perfect products. I'm sure that Alyssa could tell you many stories about my mismatched foundation days or my spidery-over-mascaraed lashes back in high school. The only good thing about my nasty high school makeup days was that I thought I looked amazing.
The makeup that is pictured above are all of my essentials when it comes to packing for trips. I have always struggled with acne and poor skin, so I make sure to have a full-coverage foundation and cover-up on hand. I have started to learn how to contour (on a basic level), which has actually made me less self-conscious about my round face.
So Jackie, what does this have to do with traveling?
The reason why I am writing this blog post is to inform you that traveling nowadays is not just about you experiencing another part of the world. Thanks to social media, it's also about other people experiencing alongside you through pictures and videos. If you do not feel comfortable and confident with yourself in your pictures, than you are more likely to not post them. It would be a shame because your friends on Facebook could miss an awesome picture of you zip lining because you didn't like the way your makeup looked that day (this has happened to me on multiple occasions.)
So - here are the products (and commentary) that I would recommend you try. They are listed in the order that they go on my face:
1. Benefit's The POREfessional: Matte Rescue Invisible-Finish Mattifying Gel, $28.00
I love that this product gives me a great base to work with. I apply this all over my face, neck, and eyelids, to get a matte, oil-less complexion to start putting foundation on.
2. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation, $39.00
This stuff is amazing. I love the coverage and thickness (but not too thick) of the foundation. I have gone through MANY different foundations that would dry out my skin, flake, or make my skin oily, the list goes on and on. It is worth the money!
I love this because it sets the foundation, and it's also my skin color! I can't tell you how many times I would use a powder that was either too light for my face, or too orangey. Praise Jesus I found this power!
4. Benefit's Fake-Up Hydrating Concealer, $24.00
I have to admit, I received a sample size of this when I ordered other products from Ulta, and fell in love. I love using my beauty blender with this concealer stick under my eyes, so it doesn't look like I am crazy tired in the morning!
5. IT Cosmetic's You Sculpted Contouring Kit, $40.00
Now this was an impulse buy, but I am very happy I bought it! It comes with 6 different shades of contour powder - and includes step by step instructions on how to contour your face. Because I am lazy and use the Wonderstick for a lot of my contouring, the most used shade is actually the matte highlighter. In the light, it makes my face look gorgeous.
6. IT Brushes for Ulta's Airbrush Blurring Concealer Brush #103, $16.00
This is the brush that I bought to use with the above contouring kit. I have found that a good brush really does wonders!
7. NYX Cosmetics's Wonderstick, $11.99
I feel like I never gave NYX Cosmetics enough credit - their products are really nice AND affordable. The Wonderstick comes with a dark contour shade, and a light highlighter. I have found that the dark shade is not very pigmented and wipes off really easily, but the highlighter portion is perfect for fast-on-the-go highlighting!
8. Covergirl's Outlast Lipcolor, $6.79
Not pictured is the Top Coat that comes with the lip color. The lip color turns into a matte stain, and the Top Coat hydrates and sets the lipcolor on your lips. So you can be drinking a drink and your lip color won't come off!
I love this liner because it does exactly what it is supposed to do - line your eyes. It goes on smoothly, there isn't any residue, and I like the clean line it makes.
10. Benefit's Roller Lash Super Curling & Lifting Mascara $24.00
Finally, the last step is mascara. This mascara is wonderful because I can put on one coat and it gives me just enough so that it doesn't look too over-the-top, but also makes my eyes pop.
I know a lot of these products are more expensive than drug store products, but trust me when I say, you can feel a difference. I have learned that investing a little bit more into your makeup really goes a long way. More expensive products have better, higher quality ingredients, that don't make you breakout as much and stay on your face longer.
There you have it - the best makeup products that will make you look #flawless while taking travel photos.
